Abstract

Educational challenges such as academic pressure, financial uncertainty, family responsibilities, learning disruptions, technological barriers, and psychological stress significantly influence students\' ability to remain committed to their educational goals. While many students encounter similar obstacles, their responses differ considerably, suggesting that psychological characteristics play a central role in determining academic persistence. This study investigates the psychological predictors that enable students to continue pursuing their academic objectives despite adverse educational circumstances. Specifically, the research examines the influence of academic self-efficacy, resilience, intrinsic motivation, emotional regulation, and growth mindset on students\' persistence in higher education.
The study employed a quantitative research design using a structured questionnaire administered to undergraduate and postgraduate students from multiple universities. A total of 320 valid responses were analyzed using descriptive statistics and multiple regression analysis. The findings indicate that academic self-efficacy and resilience are the strongest predictors of academic persistence, followed by intrinsic motivation and emotional regulation. Students possessing a stronger growth mindset also demonstrated greater adaptability when confronting academic setbacks. The analysis further reveals that psychological strengths collectively explain a substantial proportion of variance in students\' persistence during periods of educational disruption.
The findings emphasize that educational institutions should not focus solely on academic achievement but also cultivate students\' psychological well-being through mentoring programs, counseling services, resilience training, and motivational support initiatives. Strengthening these psychological resources may significantly reduce dropout intentions and improve long-term academic success. This study contributes to educational psychology by providing empirical evidence regarding the psychological mechanisms that sustain students\' persistence under challenging educational conditions and offers practical recommendations for educators, institutional leaders, and policymakers.
